Carol began volunteering with CASA several years ago. After taking a break, Carol returned to volunteering in 2022 to become one of the fiercest volunteers. She has the heart of a warrior when it comes to advocating for children. Carol quickly hit the ground running as she did not waste any time speaking with all parties involved to get an overview of her case. She collaborated with her Casa Supervisor and DCFS about how to help this family overcome obstacles in order to become whole again.
From day one, Carol has been committed to the “family unit” and will stop at nothing to ensure the children are reunited with their parents if it is in their “best interest.” For example, on her current case, Carol has worked with the mother to obtain housing, utility assistance, and additional classes, all while encouraging the mother to stay the course to regain custody of her children. She is an exceptional volunteer who ensures the children are seen face to face monthly, and their educational and emotional needs are met. In addition, she stands firm on her belief that every parent deserves a second chance when given the opportunity. Therefore, she is in attendance at a majority of the family visits as she is now one of mom’s biggest supporters encouraging her every step of the way.
Carol, thank you for all you are doing for the children in NELA. Your dedication, persistence and commitment are appreciated. Thank you for changing a child’s life one day at a time.
